Episode Zero point Six - Half a Dozen Stormtroopers

A long time ago in a galaxy far,

STAR WARS

Episode 0.VI
Half a Dozen STORMTROOPERS

Stormtroopers.  Arguably the most iconic combat regiment in Sci-Fi history and the backbone of the Empire.

For the first mission, Aftermath, I need two squads of three.

First, a good undercoat of white, two lighter coats instead of a single heavy coat.

Next is to pick out some of the black details.  The areas not covered by armour, the knee, hip and arm joints, then the fingers & gun.  Finally the eye lenses on the helmet.  Now I'm using a dark grey, so that when I shade them next, this gets darker in the recesses.

Then a good coat of Quick Shade to pick out all the details that FFG have lovingly created.

Then the toughest part yet, the drybrush.  As I want to highlight the white back up to a bright white, I need to be careful not to get white paint into the shaded areas.  I find that a fan brush is really good here and I have less paint and more control.  This did take a thick coat to get right and I mostly brushed from the top down.  Here you can see a side by side, one dry brushed, one not.

Then all six had their first dry brush coat done.

Then a second coat, with a Gloss White, then a Black touch up, to fix the areas between the armoured plates that got hit with the White dry brush.
Finally, as with all my Imperial troops, the base gets a light grey.

Then a hit with the Matt Vanish to seal it all and protect them.

Here is all the figures so far, a couple of squads of Stormtroopers, lead by Imperial Officers and a Probe Droid hoovering in the background.

Episode Zero point Five - Two Officers & a Droid.

A long time ago in a galaxy far,

STAR WARS

Episode 0.V
TWO OFFICERS & a DROID

The first of my figures are done.I started with what i consider the easiest of the lot.
A probe Droid undercoated Black, also here are the first two Imperial Officers.  They get a undercoat in a grey color considering that the majority of the uniform is grey.

Then the Droid get a couple of heavy dry brushes in silver, that hits most of the details.  Making sure to the get underside where the legs attach and to get the brush in to the gap between the top and bottom halves of the sphere torso.

With the Officers, I decided that to mixed them up a little, one wearing the black gloves from the card artwork, the other bare handed.  Also, one have brown hair, the other grey.  There is not a lot you can do with these guys, the uniform says it all.  Dark grey, black boots and belt.

All three models then get a layer of Quick Shade and then just paint a couple of lens in bright primary colours on the Droid and red & blue chest medals for the officers.

Almost done.  Just the bases to get a coat of light grey, the Elites to get a Red ringed base, but then the final Matt Vanish spray.

They're good enough for the table as a game piece.  I'm never going to win awards, but it looks 725 times better that just the plain plastic grey.

Episode Zero - A New Blog.

A NEW BLOG

So, this is it.  I finally have a Star Wars Blog.  It has only taken too long and the release of Episode VII to get me to do this.  But mainly this blog is real now because I now have a couple of friends who are willing to play the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars Imperial Assault game with me on a regular basis.  As I own it all, I will be playing the Imperial forces and they will be playing a Legendary Rebel each.  I'm not sure which ones yet because our first game isn't until the 11th of December, 2015.  A few days before the release of the Force Awakens.

I'm also using this as a driving force (lol) to get my figures painted for this.  With the first mission, Aftermath, I need to have six Stormtroopers, two Imperial Officers, an E-Web Shooter and a Probe Droid painted for the game.  With each game a fortnight later, I will have more to paint in time and before we know it, I will have painted it all, hopefully in time for the release of Return to Hoth.

So part Painting Blog, part Battle Report Blog, and part Creative Outlet, I aim to update this blog weekly, posting about the games, the campaign and the painting.  I'm also going to 'try' to post as a written point of view from the Imperial side.  My next post should have at least the Probe Droid and the Imperial Officers painting, I mean I have undercoated them already, so how hard can it be to paint three figures in a week...?? Right???
